Your Present Day
My practice is based on established Coaching principles and techniques, resulting in deeper self-reflection and effective self expression. You will learn the self-reflective and observational skills needed to achieve the relationship goals and results you desire, whether they are familial relationships, friendships, acquaintanceships, professional relationships, or romantic relationships. These techniques will facilitate and teach you how to have effective Collaborative Communication, based on knowledge and understanding of the ways in which we relate and connect with one another. Through effective and empowering communication strategies, you can directly affect the success of your relationships.
We will use the guiding themes of Identification, Analysis, and Actionable Steps in our work together to take you from your goals to the results you seek. I am here to meet you in the present moment, guiding you to clarity on complex situations in your life. Let’s take the first step together in Your Present Day.

Collaborative Communication
You deserve to be heard and acknowledged. Do you feel discomfort or dysfunction within your mental and physical self? Do you tend to avoid, rather than approach, a matter at hand with another person? Are you seeking to take back control of certain aspects of your life? Here’s how I can help empower you to effect change. The focus of our work together is to identify obstacles and create productive thoughts and actions for impacting change within your network of relationships. Our work will result in identifying pathways to reach successful self talk systems that will enable you to effect productive external actions. I will help you restore balance within your relationships and within your life. By providing the guidance and support needed for you to discover your own ability to navigate conflict and imbalance, your intentions can be delivered in a compatible language.
Conviction. Courage. Strategy. Action.
Relationships
Interpersonal relationships are formed in the context of social, cultural, and other influences. But what happens when we hit a bump in the road and an established relationship becomes fractious? Here is some comforting news: misunderstandings and rough patches in a relationship are normal. Life is not static and therefore our relationships are ever evolving. Every individual’s outlook on life is inherently formed by all of their past experiences and unique personality traits, dislikes, and preferences. When we acknowledge a relationship requires the interaction of two or more individuals with differing beliefs, values, and viewpoints, we see this creates the possibility for misunderstandings and conflicts. Consequently, these conflicts can trigger responses within us that manifest as feelings of animosity, impatience, resentment, manipulation, invalidation.
The success of Familial Relationships, Friendships, Acquaintanceships, Professional Relationships and Romantic Relationships all benefit from our ability to actively listen to one another with intention. Active listening requires a judgment free space for both parties to share and be heard. What does the other person want and need from you within the context of the situation? At what place do your goals and needs converge with theirs? Using emotional intelligence in our active listening increases our compassion and empathy. This fosters connection and resolutions in our relationships.
What does a resolution look like? It can take many different forms. Sometimes it brings us closer together in a ‘meeting of the minds’. However, other situations are best resolved by re-setting boundaries and creating distance between us and our relationship partner. Saying both ‘Yes’ and saying ‘No’ can help us reclaim our energy and equilibrium. There is value in knowing what to say and when to say it. It comes down to what you desire your future relationship to look like. Envision your goal for the relationship and let’s turn that goal into a reality.
The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself.
Resolution arrives sooner with cooperation.
“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply. The most effective listeners are empathic listeners.”
- Steven Covey
Let us redefine confrontation as initiation.
Stress
Relationships can be stressful. You know the feeling of tense muscles, a knot in your stomach, maybe a headache. No matter how hard you try, being calm and collected isn’t happening.Who do you turn to? Family and friends may offer a well-intentioned ear, but with that ear can also come unwelcome advice and judgment. This form of ‘help’ can often be more detrimental to your situation. A professional Life Coach will have the ability to listen and facilitate a solution free of personal bias.
Perhaps your instinct is to avoid confrontation in your relationships as the best way to reduce stress levels. Let us remember that what you resist persists. Addressing conflict, rather than avoiding it, can better offer the fulfilling results you desire. Let us redefine confrontation as initiation. Initiating communication with our relationship partners moves us proactively towards solutions, allowing you to dial down stress.
What you resist persists.
The comforting news is that stress is normal. “If you know how to manage it, stress can give you the extra energy you need to succeed and get through difficult situations,” Jay Winner, MD. Dr. Winner explains that the term for this is eustress - “taking this high octane adrenaline - how can you put it to productive use?” Catalyzing this stress can increase your focus and lead to new ideas. Together, we will address the stresses in your life with guided structural improvements using traditional and contemporary models. The tools and techniques you will learn will create personal growth and resilience when dealing with inevitable relationship stresses.
Pathways
Our time together will be conducted in a judgment-free space. My dedicated coaching approach aligns with the traits of my personality: positive, nurturing, intuitive, and resilient. You will have my full attention. Perhaps we begin with today’s bump in the road and progress to life’s larger relationship concerns and challenges. I will share my skills and techniques with you, hoping to ignite and inspire your journey to deeper self awareness. Together we will reframe impediments and develop your natural strengths to promote change. From within this fresh outlook of self-knowledge, you will begin to engage with and successfully navigate the relationships in your life, beginning with your relationship with yourself. Reaching your goals will be deeply gratifying and support current and future relationships.
About Me
Relationships and their inner workings are my passion. I enjoy creating community and connections with people. The variety and individuality of my relationships, both personal and professional, in conjunction with formal education and training, has led me to my career as a Life Coach. I am a Certified Life Coach from the accredited Certified Life Coach Institute and hold a BA in Community Health from Southern Connecticut State University.
My career began in Social Work, following my college years. During that time, I had the honor of mentoring troubled teenagers with acting out behaviors, while also providing support to their parents and caregivers. I have been a facilitator to families dealing with young adults requiring special education, and sometimes requiring residential care. In this intimately sensitive supportive capacity, I guided them through a myriad of services and legislation. I was given the honor and trust, to lead fragile caregivers to understand the platforms of both public and private assistance, and provide supportive guidance for clarity and direction to establish a personalized benefit program for the entire family. Following this, I also have experience working in education at the Elementary and Early Childhood Education levels in supportive roles.
In more recent years, I served as an advocate and coordinator for my elderly parents, as well as for several other elderly relations in need of my care. Vital to my ability to carry on successfully, was the generosity of the supportive eldercare community. This decades long experience has provided me with a broad knowledge of how to navigate and interface with facilities and services. I also served as a volunteer in the recreation department at a nursing home. My own relationships as a marriage partner, mother, sister, and best friend have honed and directed my vocational path and aptitude for helping others.
On a personal note, my interests include cycling, travel, visiting museums, and I’m a pet parent. As a resident of the Northern East Coast, I am a member of the local Botanical Gardens and several Meet-Up groups.

I’m very grateful to have found Shelley, at Your Present Day Life Coaching. I was really suffering from high anxiety with a sibling, who I’d always given my support and encouragement. Accepting her expanding neediness of my help started to overwhelm me. I worked out this challenge by sorting through emotions and some abstract ideas to feel in control of the situation. Together, we focused on a few very efficient techniques that uncovered my violated feelings. Shelley totally understood my sensitive predicament to restore my sanity, and continue to maintain the family friendship. I was a little apprehensive to “tell all”, yet she made this easy by offering the protection of a no judgment, no opinion - no rules space. Clearly, her sincere interest and calm approach made the whole process very comfortable. I felt like the coaching was customized to my personality and lifestyle. Boosted with improved confidence, and understanding my motivations, set me forward with control. I’ll likely need to reconnect with Shelley in the future for one thing or another! I recommend her to help you with any big or little issues.

I was recently burdened by an issue with work colleague that seemed beyond my ability to cope with. A friend suggested that I seek a life coach (online) for guidance. Unsure of that direction, yet in a pressing need, I decided to take the plunge…and found your site.
It was not long before the sessions revealed to me the new perspective that I needed. Your supporting and attentive manner gave me the ability to look within; and see what I had been overlooking. I was able to move away from my position of defensiveness and rebuild one of confidence, giving me the emotional resilience with which to bring to the situation. Using the tools that Shelley helped me summon, I was able to find common ground and mutual respect in my work place. Thanks so much again for your support.
